What is the DOT&PF planning?

The State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is planning to complete improvements on the road between Iliamna and Nondalton, including a new one-lane bridge across the Newhalen River. The purpose and need for the project is to provide safe, year-round overland access between Nondalton and Iliamna. The road improvements include:

  • Resurfacing, restoring, and rehabilitating the existing roadway from Bear Creek to the Newhalen River
  • Constructing a one-lane, six-span steel girder bridge over the Newhalen River
  • Improving the existing roadway/trail between the Newhalen River to the Nondalton material site
  • Rehabilitating the existing roadway between the Nondalton material site to Nondalton

Construction is anticipated during the summers of 2013 and 2014.



What is taking place?

The DOT&PF is currently completing a reevaluation of the 2001 Revised Environmental Assessment (EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) previously prepared for the project.
